Opportunities

Postdoctoral fellows: We are always looking for highly motivated postdoctoral fellows with a strong background in molecular biology. Our lab is in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology & Immunology in the School of Veterinary Medicine at The University of California at Davis. The lab is currently funded by three different NIH-funded projects investigating host-parasite interactions. We are studying the innate and adaptive immune response to Toxoplasma and, in turn, how Toxoplasma modulates the host cell. We are particularly interested in individual differences in host susceptibility to Toxoplasma and Toxoplasma strain differences in interacting with the host. The Vet School at UC Davis is ranked as the best in the country and our location in the Vet School will allow us to investigate Toxoplasma proteins that play a role in its sexual cycle in cats and to perform genetic crosses to identify the molecular basis for phenotypic strain differences. We are looking for team players that are excited about studying host-parasite interactions and have excellent communication skills. Previous experience with molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, genetics or computational skills is a plus.
UC Davis is located in the town of Davis, which is ranked as one of the best towns to live in in the nation. Davis is close to San Francisco, Sacramento, the Napa/Sonoma wine country and the Lake Tahoe ski area. UC Davis offers excellent benefits and multiple opportunities for professional development for postdocs. Please send your CV, a cover letter with a short statement of your research interests and the names/emails of three references electronically to jeroensaeij[at]gmail[dot]com.

Graduate students: The Saeij lab participates in the microbiology and the immunology graduate programs. You will first need to get admitted to those programs before you can join the Saeij lab. If you are a current UC Davis graduate student and you are interested in rotating in the Saeij lab please contact Jeroen Saeij. All students that are interested in rotating or joining the Saeij lab are strongly encouraged to apply for fellowships. NSF fellowships are due October 26th and students can only apply their first year. Please contact Jeroen Saeij if you want to apply for a fellowship and he would be happy to help you. See Apply for an external fellowship for information about applying to fellowships at UC Davis and NSF graduate fellowships for information about the NSF graduate student fellowships.

Undergraduate students : We are always interested in training highly motivated undergraduate students that are committed to staying at least one year in the lab.

Foreign students: If you are currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in the US (other than UC Davis) or abroad and you are interested in performing research in the Saeij lab please note the following: 1) We only accept students that can stay at least 9 months. 2) You will need to provide evidence that you can support your stay at UC Davis. Currently this means you need to have at least $2000/month.
